This is Eucalyptus camaldulensis ‘Blue Veil’, which is one of my favourite native plants, I have been quite obsessed with it for many years now. I see so much potential in this species to be used in different ways in a garden design.

Eucalyptus camaldulensis ‘Blue Veil’ is a grafted variety of Eucalyptus camaldulensis or the River Red Gum. It is basically a ground cover Eucalypt that has been grafted for hardiness, often when you buy them they have also been trained up a stake so can appear to be a small VERY weeping tree.
If you don’t train them they make a wonderfully showy spill over like the one in the image below. (Taken at the Illawarra Grevillea Park)

However in January of this year I saw them used to their full effect growing on an arbor, they were hanging down and creating curtains of soft grey foliage, so delicate and gentle.

Eucalyptus ‘Blue Veil’ is also perfect for being espaliered against a fence or wall, and one day I plan to train it along a single high string line and let it make a ‘curtain’ of leaves that can be walked through like a doorway…..one day…
