Melaueca fulgens hails from the West of Australia, no surprise there, however it can be found growing in the southern and eastern states quite happily. This species has a long flowering period from Winter through to Summer and as the blooms are such a bright highlight it is hard to miss.

This is the pink form or sometimes called ‘Hot Pink’, the Scarlet Honey Myrtle comes in Orange and Red and all the different flower colours are almost fluorescent.

Melaleuca fulgens ‘Pink’ is a small to medium shrub growing from 1 to 1.5m wide and tall, the fine foliage is wispy giving it an open habit, which is all the better for see the flowers. It suits a naturalistic style planting or would also be at home in a native cottage garden.

Melalueca fulgens prefers a well drained soil and sunny position in a Mediterranean climate, it can be grown in higher Summer rainfall areas too as long as it is planted on a slope or in a raised garden bed to ensure good drainage. For this reason it would also make an excellent container grown specimen, it prefers full sun for maximum flowers.

The striking gold tipped magenta pink flowers can be removed when finished to encourage a tidier habit, but I quite like the seed pods which are left on the stems, giving the shrub more character.
