I am quite selective and fussy when it comes to large flowering spike Grevilleas, some of them I find incredibly garish and I dislike the way they attract the aggressive nectar feeding birds. For some reason this medium sized Grafted Grevillea remains an exception for me. The flowers of Grevillea ‘Ivory Whip’ are not in your face and are a delicate ivory-white with a shade of soft pink in their centres, as can be seen in the image below.

This is also such a useful sized medium shrub, growing to around 1.5m high x 1.5m wide, it has a slightly weeping habit so it can be used as a spillover and a mounding feature shrub or dense screen.

Grevillea ‘Ivory Whip’ Grafted is quick growing and will tolerate full sun to part shade, in a well drained soil. I have actually also found it is quite tolerant of clay soil and temporary wet feet, due to being grafted onto tough root stock.

In the image abpve you can see a Grevillea ‘Ivory Whip’ which had been under pruned, this allows for a low trunk so other natives plants have space to grow under its canopy. Remember Grevilleas love being pruned and you cant go too hard especielly with the large flowering forms.

The ‘Ivory whip’ in the image above has also been given a prune, in this case to allow room to walk past as it is a little too happy.

This species really does flower for most of the year, however it is most floriferous during the winter months and offers a wonderful clean lightness to the darker, colder days.
