I am constantly asked for plants that are bird attracting, which then leads to the question of what type of birds are you trying to attract?
My main interest is in encouraging people to plant habitat plants for small birds that are often seeking refuge from larger predatory birds or other animals. These plants need to be quite dense and have a source of nectar rich flowers it also helps if they have thorny or prickly foliage. Lambertia formosa is a wonderful habit plant for small birds, it can grow to 2 metres and tolerates shade and dry conditions, the flowers are nectar rich attracting honey eater birds and come out in winter.
